Name of the map: mp_oasis_float Creator name: ADFault Creator email: adfault@yahoo.com Creator URL: n/a Version: 1 Release Date: November 12th 2010 For what game: Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare Supported Gametypes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Sabotage, Search & Destroy and Headquarters Description: This map is a large and fictional, desert cloud bowl with animated grass. I used the modelling software Sculptris to create the initial rock terrain. The output from this, I then imported into Blender (as Wavefront .obj) and outputted for Radiant (as Quake 3 .map). There's nothing about the rock terrain that couldn't have been made entirely in Radiant, but it couldn't have been made in Radiant by me in the same amount of time. On balance, I wouldn't want to recommend this approach, as it is a little more involved, with headaches including (but not limited to): splitting the whole mesh into individual triangular prisms in Blender, weeding out any degenerates in notepad++, texturing all relevant triangular prism faces rather than meshes of triangles, and finding some way to deal with prisms that overlap. Another first for me here was in making a few simple models (with Blender via TOXEC), and also a skybox from one of the skies available on cgtextures. As such I am bound to give the following credit: "One or more textures on this 3D model have been created with images from CGTextures.com. These images may not be redistributed by default, please visit www.cgtextures.com for more information." In all, there's been a lot of new stuff discovered for me, but hopefully this has produced something fun to play with.
